Mos Def on Yo Gabba Gabba

This made me laugh so hard. I love that hip hop has grown to a level that this kinda stuff can happen. It's for the children!!!

Fairy Tale

My man Ziyon just dropped a hot video for the single "Fairy Tale" from his outfit Liquideep out of Johannesburg, SA.  Some of y'all will surely remember my man from the Audiofonix days.  He's been in SA for about 5 years now gettin it in.  I heard the single at the end of last year and loved it...but the video makes me love it all over again.  Big respect to my man for makin good music and doin it big.  Check out the sista in the video...they doin it like that in Jozie?  I gotta get me a ticket!!!

David Banner & 9th Wonder

If you're anything like me, this will make you happy.  David Banner is a rapper/producer from Mississippi who rose to fame doing, well, lets just say less than conscious music.  However, in interviews and such over the years he's shown a little more intelligence than your average thug MC.  When I heard about his new collab project with 9th Wonder entitled "Death of a Pop Star" I couldn't wait to hear some music.  And it didn't disappoint.  This is a direction that I've been waiting to see cats move in , so big ups to Banner for going against the grain and saying some of what needs to be said.

Crazy or Genius?

I saw this link on a friends page and had to repost.  These cats are wild...although I do give them props for thinking it all the way through. We'll see how long it lasts before the Feds come kicking in the door.  And if they don't...think of the precedent.

Interesting Perspective on Haiti...

No matter what your social, political or religious affiliations, it's nearly impossible not to feel the gravity of the loss and suffering in Haiti right now.  That said, here's an interesting article on some historical factors that may have contributed to the conditions.  What do y'all think?

What you're not hearing about Haiti (but should be)

Obama's first year

So...like a lot of people, I voted for Barack Obama and I'm proud to have been able to see, in my lifetime, a qualified brother hold the office of President of the United States of America.  Now, I'm not one of those blind enthusiasts...there are some issues where I disagree with the President's policies and/or approach.  However, overall I am beyond pleased with the way he has run things.  After one year, I think it's only fair to let the facts speak for themselves..so I think the video clip below outlines it pretty clearly (after the Sarah Palin bit) ...dude is on his game.  What do y'all think?

R.I.P. Teddy P

We lost another great soul singer this week when Teddy Pendergrass passed from colon cancer.  Teddy gave us decades of great music from his days with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes through his solo career.  Many a baby was conceived to this man's music, so it can never be said that he didn't impact the world.  I pray peace and blessings to his family and pray that the groove lives on.

Mourning the loss and destruction in Haiti

Good peoples...as you all have surely heard, the people of Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake earlier this week.  The death count is tremendous, the overall loss is unimaginable.  While some people are being idiots and waxing political and-or religious...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59NCduEhkBM ... others are doing what they can to help.  For those interested in helping, one easy way is to text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.  They have already raised over $5 Million and every little bit helps.  Keep the people of Haiti in your prayers and make sure that you let your loved ones know that you appreciate them.  None of us are promised tomorrow.  Peace.

Thank you Dilla

It's like 7 a.m. and sleep is eluding me.  I got up and turned my computer on thinking I might try to bang out some beats to pass the time, but ended up listening to this and suddenly I'm feeling tranquil.  For those that don't know, J Dilla was the Mozart of hip hop.  For those that do, just enjoy this lovely interpretation of one of his classics.

...and if it moves you, support the cause.  All the proceeds go to his moms.

Dezaray Dawn - "Chameleon" EP

Good peoples..I know y'all love good music as much as I do, so I wanted to hip you to some real fresh future soul from my girl Dezaray Dawn.  She's a former Music City resident, currently representing the ATL.  The project, "Chameleon" is five joints of pure niceness written, arranged, produced and performed by the lady herself (with a little help from yours truly).  Also, the sixth cut, which is CRISIS Situations remix of the title cut "Chameleon", is beastly!!!  So be sure and support good music.  This project will not disappoint.  One.

Sound Therapy

Yo, just wanted to say thanks to everyone that's been supporting live hip hop at "Sound Therapy" every Friday night at The Sports Page (419 Union St, Downtown Nashville).  The vibe is real easy and it reminds me a lot of the early days of Lovenoise and even older spots like the old Club Med (how many heads remember that joint?) .   Peace to A7 and Allah Magnetic for puttin' on a quality event and I invite any hip hop fans to come check it out.  I'm gonna keep blessin the stage for the next few weeks while I'm workin out the repertoire and brewin up some new heat, so come get it in!!!
